Secured protection of transmission line by distance relay using data mining approach

Distance relay is one of the most important protection element a transmission line used in schemes. Relay may malfunction if it not able to distinguish faults from system stressed conditions. This work mainly focusses on enhancing performance distance secured manner based data mining approach which uses two phases classification. Level 1 classifier identifies conditions like normal, fault, and power swing level 2 gets initiated when there distinguishes between persistence condition three-phase fault. In both phases, scheme respective zone where fault occurred activated. The proposed methodology tested for an IEEE 9-bus wherein collected phasor measurement units placed optimal locations. Optimal PMU placement economical since overcomes issues cost, communication infrastructure issues, maintenance complexity. results proved that method effective with good efficiency higher accuracy less number PMUs.
